Beer Can Chicken
I always kind of forget about cooking a whole chicken. I don’t know if it used to seem intimidating to me or why it’s not always in my mind…but cooking a whole chicken is extremely cost-effective and actually very easy. This Beer Can Chicken comes out so amazingly delicious and juicy! It is so easy and is done mostly all on the grill…which is a win in my book, because my husband usually mans the grill. I can take care of the yummy sides (like smashed potatoes and sautéed green beans, and we have a delicious meal!
Beer Can Chicken
Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 2 - 2 1/2 hours
Ingredients:
- 1 whole chicken
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp ginger
- 1 beer
Instructions:
Turn on your smoker and heat to 225°F.
Prep chicken by making sure the cavity is clean and pat down with paper towels.
Mix spices together and then rub all over the chicken on both sides.
If you have a beer can chicken holder ( https://amzn.to/4iTxRYB ), then plop your beer in the holder and place your chicken over it. If you don’t have the holder, we’ve done it without, but it takes a little more finesse. Place your chicken over the beer can and tie the legs together with kitchen twine to try to balance the support.
Place your chicken on your smoker and smoke for one hour. Then turn your smoker up to 350*F and cook until it reaches 160-165 degrees (depends on lbs, but should be an hour to an hour and a half)
Take your chicken off the grill, off the can and let it rest for 10 minutes. Slice and enjoy with crispy smashed potatoes and sautéed green beans!
