Mozzarella Sticks

Jump to Recipe

I am not one to cut coupons or check prices a lot. I usually just buy what we need and try to look for sales when grocery shopping. I say that, but one day in Walmart, I really had a craving for mozzarella sticks. Naturally, I went to the freezer section to pick some out and I was amazed that they were at least $8 for a small pack of mozzarella sticks. Cheese and breading…and it was $8 for a package of maybe 10?

I don’t know about your family…but my family would have been fighting over those and ultimately, I wouldn’t have gotten any because I would have given up my portion for a possibility of less fighting. Mom life, right?

So I knew I had to make these. I went and got a package of 36 mozzarella cheese sticks and already had the rest of the ingredients at home.

They were so ridiculously easy to make and I had so many left over. No fights, and I have another batch next time we have a football party, or just a hankering for some mozz sticks. AND…Mom got to eat a mozzarella stick. WIN!

Mozzarella Sticks

Serving size: 6-9 (depends on cheese stick bag)

Prep time: 10 minutes (plus 1 hour chill time) | Cook time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • Flour (1 1/2 cups)
  • Bread Crumbs (1 1/2 cups)
  • Mozzarella Sticks (24)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Marinara Sauce for serving

Instructions

Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and dry them off with a paper towel.

Get your dredging station set up with 1 shallow dish of flour, one with egg mixed with the milk, and the last with the bread crumbs. Roll the sticks in the flour, shaking off excess. Then in the egg, making sure to cover all the flour bits, and finally in the bread crumbs. Set aside and continue with the rest of the mozzarella sticks.

Once they are all breaded, place in the freezer for 1-2 hours. This step is crucial so they don't just melt in the air fryer.

Preheat air fryer to 390 degrees, use avocado spray on the bottom, add mozzarella sticks, spray the top of them and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Serve with marinara and freeze the remaining mozzarella sticks for your next time!
