Sourdough Poptarts
This recipe is from littlespoonfarm.com- My friend Haley convinced me to try sourdough poptarts a while back and I am so glad she did! They are so easy and so unbelievably good! I don’t even buy the store bought version because once you have these…you can’t go back! They’re so good!
Sourdough Poptarts
Prep time: 20 minutes (plus 1 hour chilling) | Cook time: 25 minutes
Servings: 6 standard size poptarts
Ingredients
- 125 g allpurpose flour
- 113 g cold unsalted butter, cubed or grated (1 stick)
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 30 g sugar
- 125 g sourdough discard
- 5 g white vinegar
Optional fillings:
- My Strawberry rhubarb jam
- Chocolate chips and marshmallows
- Nutella
- Brown Sugar Cinnamon
- Egg wash (1 egg beaten plus splash of water)
Glaze (mix ingredients together)
- 1/2 c powdered sugar
- 1 tsp water or milk
- Optional- cocoa powder for the chocolate or maple syrup for the brown sugar poptarts
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, sugar and salt. Cut in the butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter. Add the sourdough discard and vinegar and mix using a fork and your hands to bring the dough together. Cover with plastic wrap and let chill for one hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or oven mat.
Roll the dough out as thin as possible (1/8” at least), cut into the shape you want, Line edge with egg wash, put your desired filling in the center and crimp the edges together with a fork. Add to your baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Remove from oven, let cool and top with glaze and sprinkles! Enjoy!
